Notes:  The one-movement piece is in ABA form; a lyrical slow section is framed by fast, motor-rhythmic outer sections. The basically-tonal harmonic material is colored by whole-tone configurations.  The title refers to a place (the “edge”) that is both physical and psychological. The constantly changing meter of the outer sections suggests an attempt to keep one’s balance, while the atmospheric middle section has a vague, searching quality.
