Written for the women’s choir of the First Unitarian Church of Wichita, Kansas. Dedicated to Betty Welsbacher, choir director at FUC.

Premiered at First Unitarian Church; May 20, 1990.

Notes: The text expresses concern regarding the environmental destruction of the planet. The women are rather like “Voices of the Earth,” giving a warning to those who would listen. The piece is in D, vacillating between the major and minor forms of the tonic tried and including some modal inflections. It ends with a major chord in an attempt to convey hope about the situation, however tenuous.
