Notes:  In composing this piece, I had two objectives: to write a piece suited to a young string ensemble and to express my great fondness for the scenery of Northwest Arkansas. I had read that the area around Eureka Springs was once referred to as “the lovely country” — hence the title “The Lovely Hills.”
